BJP-win-Reuters

Why Manipur’s Iron Lady Secured Only 90 Votes

Irom Sharmila is a human rights activist, and a renowned one at that. But her personality is not that of a typical politician. Irom 8

New Delhi: When Manipur’s Iron Lady Irom Sharmila was campaigning for the assembly elections, she was showered with support and respect. However, that support failed to transform into votes.

Captain Amarinder Singh is all set to be the Chief Minister of Punjab — for the second time in his political career — after the Congress recorded an impressive victory in the state by wresting 77 of the 117 seats in the assembly election result announced Saturday. The SAD-BJP combine, following two successive terms at the helm, was reduced to third place this time with 15 seats.

There is much speculation about the role Navjot Sidhu will be given in Punjab government.

Navjot Singh Sidhu, the former cricketer, who was a big part of the winning Congress team in Punjab, offered one of his famous Sidhu-isms to explain whether he expects a big role in the new government: "No one can whistle a symphony; it takes an orchestra to play."

. BJP 2

Should we accept BJP’s historic win in UP and settle down to 20 years of Modi?

Modi

Bhartiya Janta Party’s win in Uttar Pradesh has me wondering what do Indian voters really vote for? Voters across India and especially in UP have invested their unequivocal trust in Narendra Modi and the BJP.

Why Lutyen Delhi hates Arvind Kejriwal and why Aam Aadmi is with him!

They decry that he spends Rs 1,200 crore on free power, forgetting the 12,000 members of the Gymkhana and golf clubs benefit from an annual subsidy of Rs 50 lakh per member (annual interest on the value of the 200 acres of land they are sitting on, minus the pittance they pay as lease rent

The Yamuna river in Delhi symbolises the city’s poverty line. To its east live Delhi’s “have-nots”: Almost 30 per cent of the population crammed into just 15 per cent of the city’s area, comprising the lower-middle and  working classes, including lakhs of migrant labourers and most of its 1,600-odd slums. To its west reside the “have-lots”: The millionaires, politicians, bureaucrats, business magnates and media barons, the upper crust.

Ambedkar is Losing, Modi is Winning

Recent events show that Babasaheb Ambedkar’s fears of democracy giving way to dictatorship if the authority of its leaders remains unchecked may not have been unfounded. The state of the nation demands a deeper understanding of the constitution of India. The constituent assembly debates provide the best insight into this document, which Babasaheb Ambedkar described as “a fundamental document”.

AAP Has Been Defeated Before. We Will Recover For Gujarat

I want to gently remind us all that in 1984, the BJP could win only two seats. It was also pronounced dead and buried. Today, the BJP has replaced the Congress and it is the most dominant political force. There is more to come from AAP.

Today is indeed a setback for honest and innovative  politics, but to write an obit of AAP will be reading the results the wrong way. I must admit that  AAP's performance is a huge disappointment for our supporters and well-wishers, especially in Punjab, where the party was expected to form the government with an absolute majority.
